Religious Freedom in Global Perspective

The United States has often been recognized as a leader in promoting religious freedom around the world. The Department of State publishes an annual International Religious Freedom Report, which assesses the status of religious freedom in various countries around the world.

Former President Donald Trump administration established a Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom and advanced a set of policies and commitments in the Potomac Declaration. As the President Joseph Biden administration began in 2021, a new set of policies began to take shape. Hoping to influence the Biden administration priorities, the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University published a forum discussion called “Rethinking U.S. Policy on International Religious Freedom.”
