Philadelphia Tour Development
Starting in April, the Dialogue Institute will begin to offer historical tours of Philadelphia that emphasize themes of religious freedom and minority religions. As we are beginning to recruit and train guide-facilitators for this program, we have already received requests for customized versions of our tour.
On February 16, we will be facilitating a tour and dialogue experience in conjunction with the Philadelphia office of the American Jewish Committee. The event is titled “Civil Rights Tour Philly: Exploring Black and Jewish Issues of Justice” and includes a visit to Mother Bethel AME church and a dialogue between church congregants and Jewish leaders. The day concludes with a walking tour of African American civil rights history led by Dr. David Krueger, a historian of religion, and Dr. Calenthia Dowdy, who is an expert in facilitating dialogue about race. Many of the Jewish participants will have recently completed a civil rights tour of the American South and seek to connect that experience to Philadelphia.
