The Dialogue Institute in Brazil

SUSI Scholar Alumnus, Dr. Luis Siveres, from the Catholic University of Brazil hosted a week-long international “Educational Dialogue: Paths and Crossing” symposium this summer. The Conference welcomed Masters and Doctoral students at the Catholic University of Brazil in Taguatinga. Dr. Siveres asked Prof. Len Swidler to speak at the engagement on the topic of Pedagogical Dialogue. Prof. Swidler’s talk focused on interreligious dialogue and his advancements in the field.

The Contemporary Dialogue Conference included sessions on the importance of dialogue in the contemporary world, critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and democracy and dialogue. This conference was held in partnership with the University of Ottawa in Canada and Temple University. Dr Siveres believes dialogue is important because it leads to a more humanizing approach and contributes to social solidarity. The Catholic University of Brazil supported Dr. Siveres’ efforts as the University Rectory attended the conference’s opening plenary.

Dr. Siveres was part of the Dialogue Institute’s first group of SUSI Scholars on Religious Freedom. Engagements such as Dr. Siveres’ is just one way the Dialogue Institute remains in collaboration with our participants once they return home from their summer with us. The Dialogue Institute is honored to have such an extensive network of scholars pursuing the necessary work of global dialogue.
